Oncology for Pharmacists:  A Person-Centred Approach to Cancer Care is your opportunity to learn the latest information and best practices in cancer treatment to deliver better care—and better outcomes—for individuals living with cancer. Developed by educators at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and professionals across Canada, in collaboration with Cancer Care Ontario and the Canadian Association of Pharmacy in Oncology (CAPhO), this national program will enhance your knowledge and improve your confidence as a healthcare partner in the patient’s cancer journey. The goal is to equip you with a wide range of practical tips and tools to use in your practice so that you have the confidence, knowledge and skill to provide patients undergoing cancer treatment with the safest and best care possible.

After completing the Essentials of Oncology Program, 100% of participants reported or demonstrated improvements in:

  • confidence managing common toxicities related to chemotherapy and oral anticancer agents
  • comfort level with verifying an oral anticancer prescription for accuracy and appropriateness
  • comfort level with counselling a patient on their anticancer agents
  • knowledge of the philosophy of person-centred care
  • knowledge in oncology. 

 After completing the Advanced Oncology Program, 100% of participants reported improvement in:

  • confidence managing common acute and chronic toxicities related to cancer treatment 
  • confidence evaluating the appropriateness of cancer treatment for my patients
  • knowledge of advanced oncology topics
