Explore the world of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences this summer at Canada’s top faculty of pharmacy!

Dive deep into the science behind drug development and pharmacology in our hands-on summer camp, offering high school students from grades 9-12 the opportunity to learn about careers in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences from industry experts at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto.

As trusted healthcare professionals and medication experts, pharmacists are uniquely positioned in the community and broader healthcare system. Today, pharmacists apply their skills in various work environments, including community practice, primary care and family health teams, hospitals, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Each week delves into an important area of pharmacy, providing learners with a fundamental understanding of physiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical science, and communication skills through a mixture of educational discussions and interactive activities.

What you'll be learning!

Week 1: The Human Body/Physiology (July 7 - 11, 2025)

This week focuses on understanding the basic anatomy and physiology of the human body. Students will learn about the major systems (e.g., cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous) and how they function together. Activities will include interactive lectures, group presentations, and physical assessments for various conditions that affect the human body.

Week 2: Pharmacology (July 14 - 18, 2025)

Participants will explore the principles of pharmacology, including how drugs work in the body, drug interactions, and drug allergies. This week will feature interactive lectures, mystery detective work to figure out the offending agent/poison, and case studies on drug therapies.

Week 3: Pharmaceutical Science (July 21 - 25,2025)

Students will dive into the science behind drug development, manufacturing, and quality control. Topics will include the chemistry of drug compounds, biopharmaceutics, and the role of technology in pharmaceuticals. Laboratory sessions will allow students to practice compounding and understand the processes of creating safe and effective medications.

Week 4: Communication Skills (July 28 - July 31,2025)

The final week emphasizes the importance of communication in healthcare. Students will develop skills in presentation and patient counselling, health literacy, and motivational interviewing. Role-playing activities and workshops will prepare participants to communicate with patients and other healthcare professionals effectively.
